Saddam Hussein was born in Tikrit, Iraq on April 28, 1937. Before Saddam was born, his father disappeared. A few months later Saddam's older brother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away. Saddam's mother went into deep depression due to the loss of her oldest son and husband, so Saddam was sent to live with his uncle, Khailirallah Talfah. Saddam looked up to his uncle, and learned to follow his Sunni political views. Saddam was sent to learn at the al-Karh Secondary School and then he later joined his uncle's party, Baa'th Party. The Baa'th party members did not like the political views of the prime minister of Iraq so they rebelled and attempted assassinations. After the assassinations Saddam fled to Syria and later Cairo, Egypt, where he went to law school. He then finished his studies at Baghdad Law College.
